We are Laura and Yvann – a.k.a Team Specky!
Laura, who founded the business – started sewing her own clothes in summer 2018, having had a few failed attempts in the past and it quickly became a hobby for life. She started a youtube channel in 2019 and from then on The Specky Seamstress became her alter ego! When she was looking for good quality and pretty bias binding for her makes in 2020 she quickly realised she wanted fabrics that were specially designed for the purpose – and that’s there the company was started!
Laura handles all design, marketing, and website admin. Yvann, who also wears glasses, joined the business in 2022 to manage manufacturing and dispatch, having joined Laura with a love of sewing sometime during lockdown. We work together to keep the business running alongside our day jobs – we’ve been friends for over 10 years, we love designing and producing sewing treats for makers just like ourselves. We’re proud to employ a number of Bias Elves in our manufacturing and fulfilment workstreams.
